JoeMy name is Joe Yurko and I was born in 1971. I grew up in North Braddock, to a very Catholic family. Around the time I turned 5 my parents decided that they should be divorced. Divorce wasn’t something that was well accepted at that time so my parents kind of stopped going to church, and as a result so did I. My mom and dad remained friends and life was pretty normal except that my dad didn’t live with us. A few years later, our neighbor Dory Nixdorf invited me and my younger sister to church.

The Little Girl in the Park PDF Print E-mail

There was this little girl sitting by herself in the park. Everyone passed by her and never stopped to see why she looked so sad. Dressed in a worn pink dress, barefoot and dirty, the girl just sat and watched the people go by.

She never tried to speak, she never said a word. Many people passed but no one would stop. The next day I decided to go back to the park in curiosity to see if the little girl would still be there. Yes, she was there, right in the very spot as she was yesterday, and still with the sad look in her eyes.

I guess I'd put it in the category of "it's sad." It's sad that so many people grow uop and have never really grown anything in a garden. They've seen things grow in a garden, but they's never done it themselves. The only thing they know of flowers, fruits and vegetables that you can buy them in a store.
